Elizabeth: The Golden Age
August 26, 2007
Oh, hell yeah! Cate Blanchett is reprising her role as Elizabeth, the Virgin Queen in the new film Elizabeth: The Golden Age. If you have not seen Elizabeth, you must see it immediately. Blanchett gives one of the most extraordinary performances I have ever seen. The first film followed the Queen’s rise to power. The sequel shows her in all her glory.
‘Elizabeth: The Golden Age’ tells the thrilling tale of an era – the story of one woman’s crusade to control love, crush enemies and secure her position as a beloved icon of the western world. As Elizabeth’s cousin Mary Stuart conspires with Philip of Spain to topple the throne, Sir Francis Walsingham, Elizabeth’s trusty advisor works tirelessly to protect her from the many plots and conspiracies against her. Preparing to go to war to defend her empire, Elizabeth struggles to balance royal duties with an unexpected vulnerability in her attraction to Raleigh.

This looks amazing, I can’t say I thought Elizabeth was an amazing film (it was good, not great), but Blanchett was brilliant. This looks as though it can blow the first out of the water, the visuals are stunning, and adding Clive Owen to the cast doesn’t hurt at all.

I absolutely loved the film, and really admire Queen Elizabeth for going against the norm. She was fabulous, especially with her many lovers, an issue the film really doesn’t cover.
