“The Manual” for Sexually Active Gay Men
My friend Eric Leven hipped me to this amazing resource for sexually active gay men called The Manual. The Manual covers sexually transmitted diseases that gay boys need to be aware and includes information on how to tell if you or a partner have one and how to treat and prevent them. The Manual is writing in language that real gay men speak instead of the sterile and neutered language used in most STD educational campaigns.
And this great resource comes to us not courtesy of the American government which you would think would be doing what ever it takes to keep its citizens healthy. Its comes to us from the Terrence Higgins Trust in England.

In America you can’t find a brochure like this because everything is draped in religious and conservative morals (bullsh*t.) Even when a virus affects millions of its country’s own citizens. Jesus, actually, rather those who speak for him have seeped so deeply into our society that we’re prevented from using day-to-day language in a clinical brochure because it might be “offensive” to some people.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Some day (soon, I hope) we will wake up to the threat that the religious right is posing to nearly every aspect of our lives - gay or straight. I just pray it’s not too late.

I worked for an HIV community non-profit in Los Angeles for 10 years and you can’t even imagine some of the misconceptions about “the virus” I would hear from well educated men out and about chasing tail.
I’m soooooooo glad I’m married and not in the market.
I wonder if any American organization will have the guts to create its own Manual that is as informative and frank.

Oh good god, people.
Saying “penis”, “feces”, and “anal sex” instead of “cock”, “shit”, and “fucking” isn’t “sterile and neutered” language, it’s just plain language. This manual is the equivalent of sex-ed programs that use lame hip-hop acts to try to teach - a misguided attempt to connect with youth culture by trying to “speak their language”, which they’re hardly fluent in. Just using vulgar slang isn’t going to make kids listen.

In case you didn’t notice, this manual is aimed not at ‘kids,” but at gay men and the use of the language that real people actually use is not a lame attempt to be hip. It is actually speaking in the way that most people talk.

I haven’t read this manual [because I am female and dont have that extra part you lucky boys do, lol] But there are a lot of things in this world that many people try to put God and Jesus Christ into the picture. God created all man kind [I am catholic-christian: if you are not, thats ok
] and he loves all of his children.
Being gay may not be “normal” to some people but it’s not necessarily wrong. Most often you can not control who you love or what you love. Having to change some of the words used in which speaking of gay-intercourse I think is alright because in some cases the word “cock” shouldn’t be used, lol.
It irratates me how so many people try to push God onto the homosexuals because of their sexuality. I am bisexual and I love God. As long as we live right and do good, there is nothing wrong with loving our same gender.
