Gay Men, Sex and HIV

You won’t see this HIV education video on any American television station and that’s a damn shame. It has to be the best HIV education PSA I have ever seen. It dispenses with the usual bull seen so often in American HIV prevention campaigns and gets at the heart of the real issues around intimacy, sex, love and the pleasure of being men who love other men. The video was made by Francesco D’Macho, the porn actor (NSFW) who has made some surprisingly sweet videos celebrating gay love.
With the recent report of increased HIV infections among gay men, we need far more of this kind of educational campaign that celebrates gay men, gay sex, gay love while educating us about how we can protect ourselves and each other from HIV.

Very important information. Well done, Michael.
Conservatives, Bible thumpers and bigots, would much prefer gay men die than get the information we need to be sexually active and safer.
These people are truly evil sons-of-a-bitches and they stand as enemies to our community.

Interestingly enough…the same old threats…but the truth is more Hiv is spread by introvenous drug users anymore…it’s not a “gay” disease…and hasn’t been since the late 80’s…

This post is not about saying that HIV is a “gay” disease though it is in the same way that it is a “Black” disease, a “female” disease, a “Latino” disease. Its about the need for more effective and innovative approaches to preventing HIV in gay men. That’s not currently happening.

Hey guys, in fact, in the US, the majority of HIV is transmitted between men who have sex with men - for instance, gay men. Half of new HIV infections are among gay men - the incidence of injection drug users is much lower… In some parts of the country - HALF of black gay men have HIV….. To pretend that all humans are at equal risk for acquiring or transmitting HIV is just denial and bullshit.. In the western world, as well as Central and South America, the epidemic is dominated by men who have sex with men and gay men as well… And likely these groups figure into the “heterosexual” epidemics in Africa and Asia but, due to extraordinary stigma, denial, homophobia, criminalization, and lack of reporting, we do not know the numbers…

Too bad the U.S. will never be grown-up enough to run this kind of PSA. This country is so bloody Victorian, acting as though sex–any kind of sex–just doesn’t happen. Thanks for sharing it.
