Still Not Celebrating Jenna Bush’s Marriage
Oh look, Jenna Bush has set the date for her wedding.
U.S. President George W. Bush’s daughter Jenna and her fiance, Henry Hager, will marry on May 10, People magazine reported on its Web site on Wednesday, citing two sources it did not identify.
The wedding will be held at the president’s 1,600-acre (646-hectare) ranch in Crawford, Texas, one source told the magazine.
Color me bitter if you will, but as I explained in an earlier post:
I wish that I could be amongst those celebrating Jenna Bush’s upcoming marriage, but knowing that her father advocated a constitutional ban on same-sex marriages, I just can’t. I know that sounds like I am a bitter homosexual activist. I’m not. I just have no more patience for the double standard that confers more than 1,200 federal rights and responsibilities to legally recognized opposite marriages while denying same-sex couples those same benefits. Even in Massachusetts, the only one of the fifty states where same-sex couples can marry, gay couples are denied federal benefits.
Talk about “special rights.”
